Currently, there are only 2 places to Nordic ski in the area: Fall Creek Road on the west side of Wolf Creek Pass and Alberta Park, which is located near the Alberta Lift at Wolf Creek Ski Area.
Even during this exceptionally bad snow year, good snow conditions exist on Fall Creek Road thanks to its northern aspect and the Pagosa Nordic Club's grooming efforts. The road is groomed for classic and skate skis.
This weekend's storm added 3 inches of fresh powder in the vicinity of Wolf Creek Pass, covering up a few shallow spots on the road. The beginning elevation is about 9600 feet, and the road steady climbs 900 feet over the course of about 3.35 miles to an ending elevation of around 10,600 feet. Along the way there are great mountain views to enjoy if you want to catch your breath. The steady incline combined with the altitude provides a great workout. And the downhill is fast especially on skate skis.
