You have to cross the Middle Fork of the Piedra River almost immediately. Use the large cottonwood just upstream of the trail. You can hop across rocks at the Lean Creek crossing. I ran 6 miles up the trail on my way to summit Sugarloaf (https://www.strava.com/activities/1657921801) and only encountered 1 tree across the trail (the Forest Service has been busy)! The trail has become overgrown in spots since the deadfall has discouraged traffic, but it's still discernible. Most of the flowers are probably at their peak.
